The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is committed to providing entertaining and affordable theater for parents and their children all over the Pittsburgh area. This year, to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Children’s Theater Series, we have a fantastic lineup all over the city that you and your children are sure to enjoy. Come celebrate with us and explore the city at one of these convenient locations, all while creating wonderful memories with your family during the 2019-2020 Children’s Theater Series!

South

In 1969, the Children’s Theater Series started as Performing Arts for Children, kicking off its inaugural season in the beautiful Pittsburgh neighborhood of Mount Lebanon with Mister Rogers’ Neighbors. After 50 years of helping the South Pittsburgh area get access to affordable, family-fun theater the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust continues to host performances in Mt. Lebanon. For the 2019-2020 season, you and your family can enjoy shows like:

  • Judy Moody & Stink – November 23, 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., Mt. Lebanon High School
  • The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System – January 11, 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., Mellon Middle School
  • Diary of a Wombat – March 28, 11 a.m. & 2 p.m., Mellon Middle School

 

East

About 13 years after the debut of Performing Arts for Children, the programming line now known as the Family Series was introduced to the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh. Being our newest addition to the Children’s Theater Series, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is excited to start moving its East performances to Greensburg to bring professional, international theater to families in this region. This season, you can take your family to see:

  • Judy Moody & Stink – November 20, 7 p.m., Greensburg-Salem High School
  • The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System – January 8, 7 p.m., Greensburg-Salem Middle School
  • Diary of a Wombat – March 25, 7 p.m., Greensburg-Salem High School

 

North

Over the next ten years, the Family Series continued to expand to the other areas of Pittsburgh including the northern suburbs of the city. Families were now able to have more convenient options for seeing shows including two performance time for every show in the North. For the 2019-2020 season, you will be able to take your family to see:

  • Judy Moody & Stink – November 21, 5:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., Marshall Middle School
  • The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System – January 9, 5:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., Marshall Middle School
  • Diary of a Wombat – March 26, 5:30 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., Marshall Middle School

 

West

Western Pittsburgh is also one of the many places that the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust includes in the Children’s Theater Festival. This season, families in Western Pittsburgh are able to see:

  • The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System – January 10, 7 p.m., Hopewell High School

Butler

Downtown Pittsburgh

Located in the city’s Cultural District, the Byham Theater in Downtown Pittsburgh has been one of the home locations for the Children’s Theater Series’ productions since 1983. Several performance on the Children’s Theater Series are presented exclusively Downtown including:

  • Judy Moody & Stink – November 17, 2 p.m., and November 18, 10:15 a.m., Byham Theater
  • The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System – January 5, 2 p.m., and January 6, 10:15 a.m., Byham Theater
